ASPCA Pet Insurance Reviews

Every pet owner should think about health insurance for their animals. They get sick just like we do, and they need doctors just like us.

Jessica V., Tampa, FL

I wish I had ASPCA Pet Health Insurance two years ago. My dog suffered a ruptured gall bladder and had emergency surgery. Sadly, because of her age and overwhelming infection from the rupture, she had to be put down after three agonizing days of trying to fight the infection.

I spent about $5,500—all out of pocket—trying to save her life. It took me almost a year and a half to pay off all of the credit card debt from these expenses. If I had insured her ahead of time, I would have received some financial assistance.

Now my Beagle, Rip, is insured through ASPCA Pet Health Insurance. Just this fall I spent about $1,800 when she was diagnosed with Addison's. The veterinary bills were very costly, but I was reimbursed a significant portion.

Every pet owner should think about health insurance for their animals. They get sick just like we do, and they need doctors just like us. Insurance is a good investment, and it makes you feel good to know you can afford to take care of your animals.

Two weeks later a check arrived—we didn't even expect a response that fast!

Our Collie Mix, Maggie, has been a member of our family for more than 12 years. We rescued her when she was just 6-months-old.

A few years ago, a friend of ours had a beautiful yellow Lab whose hip problems were corrected by surgery and a long recuperation. The bills wound up costing thousands of dollars without pet insurance. Because of her experience, we enrolled Maggie in ASPCA Pet Health Insurance.

This past summer our Maggie was diagnosed with canine diabetes. The exams, ultrasounds, blood work, and other treatments came to well over $3,000 by the time she was stabilized. We collected all of our bills, made copies, and sent in the form. Two weeks later a check arrived—we didn't even expect a response that fast! We have been very satisfied with the company and its professionalism. Please consider pet insurance for your beloved companions. You never know when you will need it.

I have never seen this kind of personal empathy by a large company.

One day I took my 9-year-old Bichon, Harry, to the veterinarian for his annual exam. Harry had been healthy and shown no signs of illness other than the usual aches and pains we all feel as we get older.

While at the vet, I picked up a pamphlet for ASPCA Pet Health Insurance. For some reason, even though Harry had just gotten a clean bill of health, I decided to sign up for this insurance—just in case, God forbid. I called the number on the pamphlet and was greeted by a friendly person who answered all of my questions.

Almost two months after my plan started, I noticed that Harry was favoring his right front paw. Two days later, he couldn't bare weight on the paw, and his back right paw was unstable too. I took him back to the vet, who told me to go to the emergency clinic and get an MRI. I was terrified! Harry was my baby! I called ASPCA Pet Health Insurance, and the women I spoke with were incredibly compassionate. They went over my coverage with me so I knew what to expect.

The second veterinarian ran a series of tests and sadly told me that Harry had a tumor on his spine at his neck. He also had some other problems making him, as the vet said, "one sick little boy." I suddenly had to make a heartbreaking decision for my beloved pooch, who I had only recently thought was perfectly healthy. I decided to spare Harry the inevitable painful death he was headed toward.

The folks at the insurance agency stood by their word and reimbursed 80% of my more than $1,000 in vet bills.* Not only did a couple of the representatives actually cry along with me over the phone, but I was also sent a sympathy card personally signed with some words of comfort by staff members. I have never seen this kind of personal empathy by a large company.

On a happier note, two months ago, I was blessed to find a 5-year-old Cocker Spaniel who needed a home. I wasted no time signing him up for his insurance. No one should ever have to make a decision about treating a loved one (human or furry) just based on the cost of treatment.

Thank you to all at ASPCA Pet Health Insurance. I tell every pet owner I know about you!

* Please note that ASPCA Pet Health Insurance reimburses 80% of usual and customary covered veterinary expenses.

Pet Insurance Customer Pets The bonus advice about how to maximize the value of my plan made me realize that this is a company that truly cares about their customers.

I recently called ASPCA Pet Health Insurance to find out my dog Bella's insurance number so I could download a form and submit a claim. I was greeted promptly—not by a recorded message shuffling me through a revolving door of options—but by an incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful customer service representative.

Not only did she tell me Bella's insurance number, but she offered to create an online account for me so I could download the necessary forms immediately! The representative stayed on the line with me just to make sure I received confirmation of the online account, which I did.

It didn't stop there! Before I hung up the phone, she reminded me of a couple basic services that were included in my plan that I had not been using. I was speechless. I can't remember the last time I encountered a customer service representative who offered to make my life easier, actually did what they said they would do and then followed up!

The bonus advice about how to maximize the value of my plan made me realize that this is a company that truly cares about their customers. I highly recommend ASPCA Pet Health Insurance.

Having ASPCA Pet Health Insurance made those decisions easier and because of it, after only three days, my dog is well and happy—and so am I.

When my older dog Max became very sick for unknown reasons, I took him to my local veterinarian. I was immediately faced with decisions about some very costly procedures. I was unsure how the treatments would turn out, but I was sure that if I did nothing I was going to lose Max.

Having ASPCA Pet Health Insurance made those decisions easier and because of it, after only three days, my dog is well and happy—and so am I.

I have shared my story with friends, and each time I get choked up. I am so appreciative of ASPCA Pet Health Insurance.

The bill for this emergency was $4,750! My ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan paid a large chunk of this completely unexpected expense, which was great!

My puppy, Gracie, ended up in the doggie ER after eating sand. The first time we took her swimming at a nearby beach she must have eaten some of it while playing. But none of us saw her do it, so we put her in the car and headed home.

About halfway there she began vomiting and drooling nonstop. We got her out of the car at a rest stop, but she just kept throwing up. I called my veterinarian, who told me to get her to an emergency hospital right away.

We rushed to the closest hospital. After one X-ray, we were shown a pocket of granules in her stomach that turned out to be sand. She was given fluids for dehydration but otherwise was better the next day.

The bill for this emergency was $4,750! My ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan paid a large chunk of this completely unexpected expense, which was great!

Pet Insurance Customer Pets The insurance after the deductible covered 75% of her care, and just a couple months later she is back to her spunky self.

I am so happy with my choice to purchase ASPCA Pet Health Insurance for my dogs. It has been the best choice, and I've told several pet lovers I know about it.

My sweet little Silky Terrier, Nibby, was being her playful self when she jumped off the couch one day. The next thing I knew, she was clearly in pain and could barely get around.

The insurance after the deductible covered 75% of her care, and just a couple months later she is back to her spunky self, running around and barking at everything that moves.

Thank you from her loving owners, and an even bigger thanks from Nibby, who got so much help from ASPCA Pet Health Insurance!

Our ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan reimbursed us for a good portion of that cost, relieving us of the financial burden it would have been.

Betty J. - Lincoln, NE

When we first got our little Miniature Schnauzer, Chelsea, we wanted to make sure that if anything ever happened to her, we wouldn't have to make the choice between going broke to keep her alive or putting her down. Since she is treated as a part of the family, it only made sense to insure her as we would everyone else in the family.

One night when we got home, we saw that the sutures from her recent spaying surgery had busted open. She had a gaping hole in her abdomen, leaving her intestines exposed. We rushed her to the nearest emergency clinic where they kept her overnight to clean and re-close the wound.

They took great care of her, but the cost was through the roof! Our ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan reimbursed us for a good portion of that cost, relieving us of the financial burden it would have been. ASPCA Pet Health Insurance gives pet owners a sense of security, and helps pets get the attention they need and deserve. I recommend it to every pet owner I know.

The organization is staffed with caring, competent people. Filing claims is easy and efficient, and the cost is very reasonable.

ASPCA Pet Health Insurance was extremely helpful throughout the medical treatment for our beloved dog, Winston. Our adorable Westie developed cancer at age 11. Winston and our Mixed-breed Olive had been like children to me and my husband.

Our pet insurance allowed us to go ahead with chemotherapy treatments for Winston, putting him in remission for several months, and allowing us to spend more quality time with him than we expected.

Sadly, Winston passed away at the beginning of December. But we are content in knowing we did everything we could to make him comfortable and give him the best quality of life possible. We received a thoughtful condolence note after Winston's passing that was much appreciated.

I recommend ASPCA Pet Health Insurance to all of my friends. The organization is staffed with caring, competent people. Filing claims is easy and efficient, and the cost is very reasonable. Having pet health insurance helps eliminate an additional worry when your best friend is ill or injured.

ASPCA Pet Health Insurance helped us immensely with our $2,000-plus medical bill, and we still have our loving dog with us.

Violet M. - Sioux Falls, SD

My husband and I retired a year ago and, like many other people, our monthly income has been drastically reduced. Our 9-year-old dog, Alexey, had been very healthy with the exception of allergies. I had friends who had put their dog down when he needed medical treatment that they couldn't afford.

I told this story to our veterinarian, who suggested I look into ASPCA Pet Health Insurance. I did and decided to try it. What a great decision! We have used the insurance twice and have been extremely pleased, especially the second time when Alexey required surgery. ASPCA Pet Health Insurance helped us immensely with our $2,000-plus medical bill, and we still have our loving dog with us. Thank you!

ASPCA Pet Health Insurance is the reason my pet cat, Davis, is alive today.

Judith V. - Sharpsburg, MD

ASPCA Pet Health Insurance is the reason my pet cat, Davis, is alive today. I never could have afforded the tests and treatments that have kept him happy and healthy.

He recently had a case of an inflamed bowel that could easily have been misdiagnosed as cancer without the tests performed and the expertise of our veterinarian. In the current recession, I have been laid off, and this insurance has been a Godsend.

If not for our pet insurance we would be hard pressed to take care of our little girl as the bills can really add up for this type of condition.

Samuel F. - Spokane, WA

We have a lovely and delicious cat named Bootsie. She stopped eating one day, and we were so worried. It turned out that she had a urinary tract infection and some renal problems.

She stayed at the hospital for two nights on fluids. Now I have to inject her daily with fluids and give her drops and pepsid pills. If not for our pet insurance we would be hard pressed to take care of our little girl as the bills can really add up for this type of condition.

Thank goodness for ASPCA Pet Health Insurance! Those reimbursement checks are a godsend!

Pet Insurance Customer Pets The costs for Ricky's care were indeed extraordinary, but the people from ASPCA Pet Health Insurance were quick and responsive.

Katie G. - Jackson, MS

We bought pet insurance through ASPCA Pet Health Insurance for our 15-year-old cat, Ricky, only last summer. Ricky had been a very healthy and happy cat throughout his life, and he brought so much love to our family.

In October, Ricky suddenly began losing weight, and his blood tests indicated liver problems. Our veterinarian suggested we visit an animal specialty clinic that could perform a liver ultrasound and biopsy. The estimated costs for these procedures were extraordinary, and we became concerned about the financial toll this could take on our family.

We went ahead when our veterinarian told us Ricky might have a treatable form of cancer. Unfortunately, Ricky's cancer was incurable. He died at home on Dec. 4, but he was surrounded by the people and other cats who loved him.

The costs for Ricky's care were indeed extraordinary, but the people from ASPCA Pet Health Insurance were quick and responsive. Each veterinary bill was covered without question. The customer care people were empathetic and kind. I am so happy that we chose to insure the health of our cats with ASPCA Pet Health Insurance, and I would highly recommend that other pet owners do the same for their pets.

NOTE: While the above testimonials may include examples of recent claims payouts, reimbursement is subject to the terms and conditions of your plan. Identifying information has been changed.
