Customer Story: Jack Survives House Fire

CSS_09212014.JPG

“I was out of town when my house caught fire, and my neighbor had to break down the door to rescue my dog, Jack. My poor dog ran out of the house with smoke billowing behind him and buried his nose in the snow.

Jack spent a week in the hospital followed by two months of oxygen therapy, but he is doing better. Something like this really helps you appreciate ASPCA Pet Health Insurance! My plan has been vital to helping us manage the medical bills.” –Patrick L., Brunswick, ME

Customer Story: Arturo Ingested Gopher Bait

D_Stout.jpg

“My husband buried gopher bait out in the backyard. Later on, he noticed that one of our dogs had been digging around where he buried the bait. We figured by the size of the hole that it had to have been Arturo, our Miniature Australian Shepherd, rather than our Lab. I took Arturo straight to our veterinarian's office, knowing he had an ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan. If I had waited, I would not have seen any symptoms for 72 hours and by then it would have been too late. The veterinarian induced vomiting and found a glow to it, meaning that Arturo had definitely ingested the gopher bait. The veterinarian administered charcoal to Arturo several times over a 24-hour period, and my dog is now back to his rambunctious self.” Clarissa D., Red Bluff, CA

Customer Story: Scout's Spleen Removal

CSS_08172014.jpg

“I have had my Beagle, Scout, covered with an ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan for the past eight years. I recommend this insurance to anyone who has a pet, as it has been extremely helpful from the beginning. Last year, Scout became sick and needed to have his spleen removed. It was an expensive procedure, and I ended up getting reimbursed just about everything I paid. I don't have any children, but I consider Scout to be my baby. I feel better having him being covered with the ASPCA Pet Health Insurance.” –Melanie V., Cranston, RI

Customer Story: Pam's Alley Cat Antics

CSS_08102014.jpg

“Pam, my indoor cat, and I live in an apartment with an alley in the back. Once Pam got out and ventured into the alley. Soon I heard a cat fight. I was so worried! Pam had been inside her whole life, and I didn’t know if she would be able to defend herself.

I rushed out into the alley, and I saw Pam hissing and pushing away a huge male cat. Luckily, I got Pam inside, but she kept licking her paw, and I could see it was bleeding. We went to the vet right away, and I was told Pam needed minor surgery.

I was very nervous about how much it would cost. I’d had an ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan for Pam, but I hadn’t used it so far. Thank goodness for that policy!

After I paid the deductible, my pet insurance plan paid about 80% of the remainder. I would have been out several hundred dollars without it, and I don’t have that kind of money.

Pam has been lucky since then, but there is nothing like the reassurance I feel because she is covered. I will never have to choose between her health and money.” –Calista M., Calabasas, CA

Customer Story: Mayslie's Battle with Breast Cancer

CSS_08032014.jpg

“Our Mayslie, a Katrina dog, developed a mammary lump. When it was removed, pathology showed it was cancerous. A year later, another lump appeared. We had that one removed also, only to find it was a different type of tumor. We are so grateful for her ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan, which has reimbursed us for both surgeries, as well as tests and X-rays. We are retired and on a limited budget. Thanks to her ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan, we could have Mayslie taken care of promptly and properly! Our other two ‘kids’ are fine, but we are prepared just in case!” –Louise R., Oroville, CA

Customer Story: Spitfire Covered for Out-of-State Emergency

CSS_07272014.jpg

“Spitfire’s ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan helped when we feared he had a bladder stone. We received a reimbursement for an emergency veterinary clinic visit we needed while on vacation out of state. The visit included multiple tests and antibiotics. Our veterinarian then ran a couple more tests to confirm Spitfire did not need surgery when we returned home. ASPCA Pet Health Insurance has also been helpful with Spitfire’s recurring urinary tract issues. It is great to have if history repeats itself!” –Kasi J., Middletown, OH

Customer Story: Two Cats Triumph Over Cancer

iStock_000020262475Small.jpg

“My sister’s beloved dog was hit by a car. My sister recounted how she carried her dog, wounded and bleeding to the veterinarian’s office. It was a horrible experience, but she was grateful to have had pet insurance to help with the bills.

That made me pause and realize that my two cats weren’t insured. I shopped around and compared plans offered by a couple providers. I decided to buy an ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan that covered accidents and illnesses. My plan also has coverage for chronic conditions.

Four months later, I took one of my cats to the vet for a checkup. I pointed out a small bump I’d felt on the tip of her tail. I was surprised by the doctor’s concern. It was biopsied, and I was stunned to hear it was cancer.

Our vet amputated a part of my cat’s tail, and now, years later, she’s in good health. My other cat also had a cancerous growth removed, and she’s doing well also.

I’m grateful that I didn’t have to worry about unexpected veterinary bills at these stressful times.” –Jenny C., Fayetteville, NC

Customer Story: To Burp is Divine

customerstory07062014web.jpg

“We placed Rebecca’s food in front of her in the morning as usual, but she placed her tail between her legs and began to shake and scream. She cuddled up between my legs, so I picked her up and reassured her by patting her on the back. She then burped and began wagging her tail. I put her down, and she began to eat her food normally. We recently took her to the veterinarian about this behavior, and we think it has something to do with her heart murmur. When she gets excited she gulps air, which seems to create the unwanted gas. We’ve have been trying gas relief medication to help relieve the issue.” –Michael R., Reno, NV

Customer Story: Protecting Mom

“I stepped outside with my dog Kyle one night and was surprised to get knocked down by a stranger waiting in the dark. Kyle leapt into action to keep me safe, chasing the man away after a short struggle.

Luckily, Kyle only suffered a minor back injury that was treated by my veterinarian the next day. I’m so thankful for my pup who protected his pet mom and happy to protect him with ASPCA Pet Health Insurance!” –Virginia P., St. Louis, MO

Customer Story: A Tale of Two Cats

customerstory06212014web.jpg

“I cannot begin to express how grateful I am for the compassion, attention to detail and response time exhibited by the folks at the ASPCA Pet Health Insurance program. I lost my job in February, and in May I sadly lost a young cat to cancer. I would not have been able to give Kit a dignified and humane end without his insurance plan. The customer service representatives were so compassionate during my time of grief. The kind words and the beautiful card I received helped me get through that awful week.

In December, my other cat was diagnosed with a blockage, and the thought of losing another young cat in the same year—on Christmas Eve no less—was unbearable. I took him in right away and got him the proper care he needed. He's now back at home and doing well.

I will always cover my pets with pet insurance. I've recommended the plan to several people. They’ve all had a wonderful experience enrolling.” -Grace V., Peekskill, NY

Customer Story: Midnight's Cancer Scare

mC2DXJAweb.jpg

“I had a plan with another pet insurance company and decided to switch to ASPCA Pet Health Insurance.

When I took my 9-year-old cat, Midnight, to the vet for dental work and a checkup, the vet discovered a growth on his belly. I was worried it might be cancer. My veterinarian did a thorough checkup, with lab tests and blood work, plus the dental cleaning, which also meant anesthesia and an IV. I knew this was not going to be cheap. The bill was $1,368.75.

I submitted my claim, expecting the level of reimbursements I had been used to with my previous pet insurance plan. But my ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan covered about 90% of the claim! I was delighted!

Shadow also did not have cancer, so I was able to start 2014 off right, with a cat in good health and the reassurance that I can keep him there thanks to ASPCA Pet Health Insurance. Thank you for doing a great job!” –Cynthia D., Modesto, CA

Customer Story: Vomiting Induced After Alex Ate a Fire Starter Log

06012014.jpg06012014.jpg

“I first bought Alex an ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan after he ingested a bottle cap. This time we had left a fire starter log, the size of a candy bar, wrapped in a plastic bag and tucked under firewood on the hearth. We came to find ripped plastic on the floor, along with a little debris. We called animal poison control, and we were instructed on how to make Alex throw up. He vomited quite a bit initially and then carried on retching on and off through the night and into the morning. We took him to the veterinarian, where they took X-rays then gave him fluids and shots. We were also told to feed him a bland diet to help settle his stomach.” – Hannah W., Wheeling, WV

Customer Story: Woodrow Beat Bloat

04272014.jpg

"My dog, Woodrow, is a 6-year-old Golden Retriever who is our baby! One night, the sound of Woodrow vomiting awakened me. This happened a couple times, and he looked white and pale. I immediately called our 24-hour animal hospital and took Woodrow in. He had to have surgery for gastric dilatation volvulus (GDV), which is a life-threatening condition where the stomach becomes distended with gas and twists on itself, kinking important blood vessels in the abdomen that leads to shock. His stomach was rotated back and then tacked to the abdominal wall to prevent this from happening in the future. It took Woodrow a month or more to get back to his regular self. All the stars must have lined up for Woodrow that night! Thank goodness he sleeps upstairs with us and that the hospital had a surgeon on-call. And, finally, thanks to Woodrow’s ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan that reimbursed much of our costs!” –Johnny H., Muttontown, NY

Customer Story: Tony Hurt His Eye Answering the Door

D_Leon.jpeg

“Tony was barking at the delivery man, and Tony ran into my knee on his way to the door. Later, he started pawing at his right eye, and he continued to be bothered by it through the night and into the next morning. We took him to the veterinarian to make sure he wasn’t doing any damage to his eye with his paw. After treatment, including eye drops, Tony is OK. We are glad to have an ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan for Tony because he is a very active dog. A previous dewclaw accident, which resulted in surgery, prompted us to get it.” -Joe C., Winooski, VT
