Customer Story: Belle’s Recovery from Mouth Cancer

6.jpg

“Belle was recently diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in her mouth and had to have all but two teeth extracted. I have submitted four claims so far for Belle and have received my reimbursements within two weeks. I've spoken with representatives a couple times with questions and each time they were courteous and knowledgeable, and they voiced compassion and concern for Belle. My girl is on the road to recovery, and there has been no recurrence of the tumor so far. The small monthly fee is well worth it as I could never have afforded the surgery and aftercare necessary to keep her alive and well. Thank you to the caring folks at the ASPCA Pet Health Insurance program!” –Charlotte S., Potsdam, NY

Customer Story: Sully’s Sudden Illness

1.jpg

“We lost our beloved Welsh Corgi 6 months ago. He became very ill very quickly and had to undergo multiple tests over a number of days. X-rays and blood tests revealed nothing unusual, but an ultrasound showed an abscess in his liver that was probably masking a tumor. Because of his age and overall physical condition, we determined that euthanasia was the best option. I did not even consider the cost of any of the tests or treatments at the time. We just wanted to do what was best for our dog. I was pleased we had an ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan after the credit card bill arrived with all of the veterinary charges. The loss of our beloved Sully was hard enough. At least the bills were manageable thanks to our pet insurance plan.” –Yolanda K., Eureka, CA

Customer Story: Focusing on What’s Important

5.jpg

“I am very glad I have an ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan. When Carolina became ill, I was able to focus on what was truly important, her medical care and our time together, not the cost of the care. Carolina has since passed away, and now my elder cat Seneca is facing the typical challenges many older cats experience. Again, I can focus on providing her quality care and our time together. I depend on our ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan.” –Sheryl B., Roanoke, VA

Knowing they have insurance makes treatment decisions much easier. My kitties have gotten sick in the past—luckily nothing too serious—and a big portion of the claims were covered. “I just wanted to express my appreciation for everything the folks at the ASPCA Pet Health Insurance program have done. My claims were handled very fairly, and I was very appreciative when I received calls to see how Bucky was doing after surgery. I even received a sympathy call when he passed away. Customer Story: Scout's Spleen Removal

CSS_08172014.jpg

“I have had my Beagle, Scout, covered with an ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan for the past eight years. I recommend this insurance to anyone who has a pet, as it has been extremely helpful from the beginning. Last year, Scout became sick and needed to have his spleen removed. It was an expensive procedure, and I ended up getting reimbursed just about everything I paid. I don't have any children, but I consider Scout to be my baby. I feel better having him being covered with the ASPCA Pet Health Insurance.” –Melanie V., Cranston, RI

Customer Story: Mayslie's Battle with Breast Cancer

CSS_08032014.jpg

“Our Mayslie, a Katrina dog, developed a mammary lump. When it was removed, pathology showed it was cancerous. A year later, another lump appeared. We had that one removed also, only to find it was a different type of tumor. We are so grateful for her ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan, which has reimbursed us for both surgeries, as well as tests and X-rays. We are retired and on a limited budget. Thanks to her ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan, we could have Mayslie taken care of promptly and properly! Our other two ‘kids’ are fine, but we are prepared just in case!” –Louise R., Oroville, CA

Customer Story: Spitfire Covered for Out-of-State Emergency

CSS_07272014.jpg

“Spitfire’s ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan helped when we feared he had a bladder stone. We received a reimbursement for an emergency veterinary clinic visit we needed while on vacation out of state. The visit included multiple tests and antibiotics. Our veterinarian then ran a couple more tests to confirm Spitfire did not need surgery when we returned home. ASPCA Pet Health Insurance has also been helpful with Spitfire’s recurring urinary tract issues. It is great to have if history repeats itself!” –Kasi J., Middletown, OH

Customer Story: Two Cats Triumph Over Cancer

iStock_000020262475Small.jpg

“My sister’s beloved dog was hit by a car. My sister recounted how she carried her dog, wounded and bleeding to the veterinarian’s office. It was a horrible experience, but she was grateful to have had pet insurance to help with the bills.

That made me pause and realize that my two cats weren’t insured. I shopped around and compared plans offered by a couple providers. I decided to buy an ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan that covered accidents and illnesses. My plan also has coverage for chronic conditions.

Four months later, I took one of my cats to the vet for a checkup. I pointed out a small bump I’d felt on the tip of her tail. I was surprised by the doctor’s concern. It was biopsied, and I was stunned to hear it was cancer.

Our vet amputated a part of my cat’s tail, and now, years later, she’s in good health. My other cat also had a cancerous growth removed, and she’s doing well also.

I’m grateful that I didn’t have to worry about unexpected veterinary bills at these stressful times.” –Jenny C., Fayetteville, NC

Customer Story: Grover is Covered, Just in Case

iStock_000037074476Small.jpg

“I live on a limited income and have coverage for Grover just in case something happens with his health. ASPCA Pet Healthy Insurance has been easy to use, and it came in handy when Grover had to have a gingival mass removed a few years ago.

I adopted Grover shortly after I lost another Sheltie to cancer. Grover needed a new home because his owner had become quite ill and could no longer care for him. Shelties get very attached to their owners, so Grover had a hard time adjusting to the change. When I saw his lonely and hurt face, I got down on my knees and talked to him like a person, explaining what happened and that I would be taking him to his new forever home.” –Cheryl K., Doylestown, PA

Customer Story: To Burp is Divine

customerstory07062014web.jpg

“We placed Rebecca’s food in front of her in the morning as usual, but she placed her tail between her legs and began to shake and scream. She cuddled up between my legs, so I picked her up and reassured her by patting her on the back. She then burped and began wagging her tail. I put her down, and she began to eat her food normally. We recently took her to the veterinarian about this behavior, and we think it has something to do with her heart murmur. When she gets excited she gulps air, which seems to create the unwanted gas. We’ve have been trying gas relief medication to help relieve the issue.” –Michael R., Reno, NV

Customer Story: A Tale of Two Cats

customerstory06212014web.jpg

“I cannot begin to express how grateful I am for the compassion, attention to detail and response time exhibited by the folks at the ASPCA Pet Health Insurance program. I lost my job in February, and in May I sadly lost a young cat to cancer. I would not have been able to give Kit a dignified and humane end without his insurance plan. The customer service representatives were so compassionate during my time of grief. The kind words and the beautiful card I received helped me get through that awful week.

In December, my other cat was diagnosed with a blockage, and the thought of losing another young cat in the same year—on Christmas Eve no less—was unbearable. I took him in right away and got him the proper care he needed. He's now back at home and doing well.

I will always cover my pets with pet insurance. I've recommended the plan to several people. They’ve all had a wonderful experience enrolling.” -Grace V., Peekskill, NY

Customer Story: Midnight's Cancer Scare

mC2DXJAweb.jpg

“I had a plan with another pet insurance company and decided to switch to ASPCA Pet Health Insurance.

When I took my 9-year-old cat, Midnight, to the vet for dental work and a checkup, the vet discovered a growth on his belly. I was worried it might be cancer. My veterinarian did a thorough checkup, with lab tests and blood work, plus the dental cleaning, which also meant anesthesia and an IV. I knew this was not going to be cheap. The bill was $1,368.75.

I submitted my claim, expecting the level of reimbursements I had been used to with my previous pet insurance plan. But my ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan covered about 90% of the claim! I was delighted!

Shadow also did not have cancer, so I was able to start 2014 off right, with a cat in good health and the reassurance that I can keep him there thanks to ASPCA Pet Health Insurance. Thank you for doing a great job!” –Cynthia D., Modesto, CA

“My beloved Reeves passed away unexpectedly from a stroke. He was a 9-year-old Springer Spaniel and my sole companion for the first 8 years of his life. I have had an ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan for a big portion of his life, and it provided added assistance in helping me make sure he always received the best of medical care. For instance, he had to have his ACL replaced, and he almost died when his stomach flipped. Reeves took a big piece of my heart when he passed away.” -Viktor R., Napa, CA

Customer Story: Woodrow Beat Bloat

04272014.jpg

"My dog, Woodrow, is a 6-year-old Golden Retriever who is our baby! One night, the sound of Woodrow vomiting awakened me. This happened a couple times, and he looked white and pale. I immediately called our 24-hour animal hospital and took Woodrow in. He had to have surgery for gastric dilatation volvulus (GDV), which is a life-threatening condition where the stomach becomes distended with gas and twists on itself, kinking important blood vessels in the abdomen that leads to shock. His stomach was rotated back and then tacked to the abdominal wall to prevent this from happening in the future. It took Woodrow a month or more to get back to his regular self. All the stars must have lined up for Woodrow that night! Thank goodness he sleeps upstairs with us and that the hospital had a surgeon on-call. And, finally, thanks to Woodrow’s ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan that reimbursed much of our costs!” –Johnny H., Muttontown, NY

"Rosie is my darling Yorkie. She is so lovable and loves everyone. Sadly, she developed pancreatitis this year and has been back and forth to the veterinarian many times. I have to keep her on a restricted diet and medications.

It has become very costly, but thanks to our ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan, the burden has been much lighter. I am fortunate and thankful to have this insurance for her.

I hope we can get her completely well. I would love to have her around a few more years." -Rachel J., Sandpoint, ID
