Going Somewhere?

Taking your pet on a trip can be a memorable experience. These tips can help make sure they're all good memories.

On the road

Use a crate or a harness to keep your pet safe in the car, and burn off some energy before you hit the road. Also, while offering a meal right before or during a drive can be a bad idea, a treat-filled puzzle toy can make for a calmer ride.

In the air

The ASPCA® doesn't recommend pets travel by plane, unless they can fit in a carrier under the seat. If you do travel by air, you should get your pet checked at the vet before the flight and ask the airline for specific guidelines.

At the hotel

Look into the hotel's policy before you book. Some require a deposit or nonrefundable fee. Others won't allow pets to be left alone in the room, even crated. Bring along a favorite blankie or toy to help your pet feel at home.

Don't forget, you can use any licensed veterinarian in the US or Canada with your plan, so your pet can be covered away from home. For more tips on pet travel by car or by air, visit the ASPCA's website.

Happy Trails!

Pet Speak: A Customer's Story*

“My husband retired, and we went to full-time travel in our RV. Our dog, Luke, is more like a child than a pet and, when he got Valley Fever traveling in Arizona, I was so glad we had ASPCA Pet Health Insurance.

The blood tests and ongoing treatment would have put us in a pickle. I am very happy with the way we are treated with this insurance. Luke also has a chip, just in case he ever gets lost!”
