Know Before You Buy
Here are 5 questions to ask any pet insurance provider.
1. How much does the plan cost?
Our entry level accident and illness plan on average costs about 30% less than similar plans offered by other
providers, and 60% less than the most expensive of these plans.* If you hear promises of really high payouts
elsewhere, look closely at the cost of the plan. Will you need to raise your deductible a significant amount
just to afford it?
2. What will affect your reimbursements?
ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plans reimburse up to 90% of eligible charges from your actual veterinary bill.
Our reimbursements aren’t limited by a benefit schedule that restricts payouts to a fixed amount per
diagnosis. Also, our annual deductible only needs to be met once a plan year, unlike per incident
deductibles that reduce your reimbursement for every single injury or illness.
3. Is wellness coverage available?
Since wellness care is so important to keep your pets healthy, ASPCA Pet Health Insurance has two options
for wellness care. For little additional cost, you can cover your pet for spay/neuter, an annual dental
cleaning, an annual exam, flea/heartworm medication and several vaccines and tests.
4. How much experience does the provider have?
The Hartville Group, which provides ASPCA Pet Health Insurance through its licensed agency, is one
of the oldest and largest pet insurance providers in the US. We’re also the ASPCA®’s only strategic
partner for pet insurance, and we have an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.
5. Are plans easy to use?
When your pet is hurt or sick, you can file claims with us at any point in the treatment process. We
have a 1-page claim form that's easy to fill out, and it doesn't need to be signed by your veterinarian.
