Dog sitting on grass

“There was a bowl of leftover Chinese takeout food on the counter that contained mostly onions. We do not know how Keaton got it off the counter, but we found the bowl empty and on the floor. We know onions are highly toxic, so we rushed him to the veterinary clinic. They induced vomiting, and out came a bowl-sized amount of onions.” -Tyler S., Elkridge, MD

“My daughter was visiting, and we were about to go out. Typically, Vinnie will sit at the door waiting for a leash to be a clipped before he would go, but this time the door was slightly opened. He darted straight out after a cat across the street. In a blink, he had crossed the street, chasing the cat into the path of an oncoming vehicle with him just behind. The cat made it, but the vehicle clipped Vinnie. We scooped him up and took him to the emergency veterinary clinic. Luckily, there were no broken bones, just road rash in several places and a bleeding nail bed. I was so glad I had taken the time to invest in an ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan for Vinnie.” -Audrey P., San Jose, CA

Dog on a cushion

"Our Chihuahua, Sophie Marie, was frantically looking for the stool she uses to get on and off on the bed, and I leaned over to show her were it was. We bumped heads, and Sophie Marie fell backward. She first hit the stool and then the floor. The next morning she showed signs of lameness, and I took her to her veterinarian. Our collision caused a sprain that kept Sophie Marie from her regular activity for 4 to 5 weeks. It was hard to keep her still for that long, but Sophie Marie is now back to normal." -Linda D., Medford, NJ

dog with quills in nose

"During a hike, Autumn took off barking towards the base of a tree. She quickly returned with a full face of quills from a porcupine. We were an hour away from the car, and by the time we arrived at the emergency vet clinic, the waiting room was full. So I decided to go home and call our mobile veterinarian. Autumn was anesthetized, and they used pliers to take out each quill. The veterinarian prescribed antibiotics, and Autumn looked like herself again by the next day. These accidents can happen, and I was glad I had ASPCA Pet Health Insurance!" -Mindy H., Brattleboro, VT

“We were giving our dogs a bath, when Violet put her foot over the drain and her toenails went through the holes. When Violet tried to get out of the tub, several of her nails snapped off. She was bleeding pretty badly, so we rushed her to the emergency veterinary hospital. She was sedated, given antibiotics and her foot was sterilized and wrapped. I was thankful for Violet’s ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan!” –Elaine K., Scranton, PA

two toy poodles

"I live in an apartment complex with my two Toy Poodles, Paris and Milan. I was taking them out for their last potty break of the evening when Milan sniffed a small fertilizer pellet. Milan started making a noise like a reverse sneeze, almost like she was gasping for air. I looked up her nose and spied the pellet. We immediately went to the emergency animal clinic. They used an instrument much like a pair of tweezers to pull out the pellet and then flushed her nose. I have always been very happy with my ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan. I never want to think about cost when it comes to the care of my pets." -Angela C., Flagstaff, AZ

photo of dog that ate wood

“I left Zeke alone, and he apparently heard something on the other side of the bedroom door. So he tried chewing through that door! He's 10 years old, and he has never done something like this before. It was not a solid wood door. When I got home, I found the first side had a large hole, and Zeke was working his way through to the other. He had wood chips and splinters on his head, in the skin of his muzzle, and on his mouth, tongue and feet. I was afraid that he had swallowed a large wood piece so I rushed him to the veterinarian. The vet removed all of the splinters and gave him some medication for the pain. I’m definitely a firm advocate of pet insurance, and I recommend ASPCA Pet Health Insurance to others.” – Tessa K., Charleston, WV

“I took Alfalfa outside, and he jetted away to the same spot I thought I had seen a raccoon the day before. I rushed over to pull Alfalfa away, and he briefly got caught in a thorn bush and suffered a big scrape and cut. I took him to the emergency room, where he received treatment and antibiotics. Alfalfa is fine and doesn’t have a scar like I thought he would. He is my child, and I am so glad to have ASPCA Pet Health Insurance for him!” – Rochelle D., Worcester, MA

"I love exploring the outdoors, and my dog Sophie goes everywhere with me. I had a feeling that giving her freedom to explore might increase her chances of injury or sickness. Signing up for ASPCA Pet Health Insurance was the best thing I've ever done. Multiple times we've needed your service to help cover veterinary costs. Sophie is naturally healthy, but as I anticipated, her high energy and accidental encounters have meant a few costly trips to the vet. I am very grateful for the reimbursements!"
