December 2011

As we wrap up 2011, we thought it would be fun to look at top pet names, claims, and holiday gift ideas for your pet. We also wanted to congratulate our Team ASPCA runners who ran their hearts out to support the ASPCA. And, most importantly, we'd like to wish you and your pet a wonderful holiday season and a happy New Year!

Most Common Claims

This year, we received more claims for annual wellness exams than any other claim — 49,391 at last count! It's great to know so many pet parents are looking after their pets' health. Remember, both our Level 3 and 4 plans cover wellness care.

For dogs, we saw the most claims for cancerous or unspecified growths. Ear infections, gastrointestinal issues, and skin irritations weren't far behind. The most common injury claim we received was for bite wounds.

Gastrointestinal issues and cancerous or unspecified growths were also near the top of the list for cats. Other feline claims we received often included lymphoma, vomiting, chronic renal failure, and diabetes.

We work hard to make the claims process as easy as possible. For instance, we don't require a diagnosis for reimbursement or ask your veterinarian to sign the claim form. You can also track your claims easily online at the Member Center.

Going Above and Beyond in 2011

We were excited to run with Team ASPCA in the 2011 Dodge Rock 'n' Roll Los Angeles Half-Marathon on October 30. Best of all, we raised $15,550 to help the ASPCA® continue its lifesaving work! Our team members trained hard to complete the 13.1 miles — some for the very first time. Everyone in the company also got involved, hosting many fundraisers and fun events in the office the last couple months.

It was all worth it, especially since our efforts will help the ASPCA give deserving animals a second chance in the New Year and beyond. Check out Team ASPCA's website to learn more about this training and fundraising program, and see how you can join in an upcoming race.

Pet Speak: A Customer’s Story*

On Christmas morning, my Border Collie mix, Norman, who is usually very healthy began to vomit. I rushed him to the emergency clinic where he was admitted for the night. I spent my entire Christmas Day worrying about him. I also thought of the expense, but remembered that I had ASPCA Pet Health Insurance.

When I picked him up the next day, he was OK, but the bill was $1,100. Merry Christmas! Luckily, I submitted my forms and a nice check came soon in the mail. I was really happy I was reimbursed so quickly, especially at that time of year.
