Pet insurance plans with "no limits" may sound attractive. But are they worth the cost? There are a few things to consider.

Typically, with any type of insurance, the more coverage you buy, the more expensive it's going to be. To get "unlimited" pet insurance coverage, you may need to pay an expensive premium or select a high deductible to bring down the cost. Both options could have an impact on the value of the plan.

ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plans are designed to set reasonable limits so customers have the coverage they need while keeping the plans as affordable as possible. In fact, only about 0.5% of our customers even hit their plan's coverage limit.+ Would a more expensive plan be worth the extra cost?

Here’s an example: Jill is a 9-year-old cat who got sick twice in a year.

In this case, Jill's pet parent decided to increase her deductible to get a premium she could afford. The cost is the same as a Level 2 ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plan, but the higher incident deductible on the other plan has an impact on her reimbursements.

Here Jill's parent chose to pay more in premiums to maximize her reimbursements. The premium for the "unlimited" plan is about 30% higher than the ASPCA Pet Health Insurance Level 2 plan, but the incident deductible and other exclusions still affect the "no limit" payout.
