When comparing pet insurance providers, it’s important to consider experience. Embrace pet insurance began selling plans in 2006, while the agency that provides ASPCA Pet Health Insurance was founded in 1997. Also look closely at coverage differences. For instance, Embrace only covers prescription medications and microchipping if you purchase an optional add-on. Both are included for covered conditions with the ASPCA Pet Health Insurance Complete CoverageSM plan.

Embrace Pet Insurance Plan Comparison

Deciding on the best pet insurance provider for you and your pet is a personal decision. But understanding the differences between plans can help you make the right choice. Embrace and the ASPCA® Pet Insurance program differ in key areas including amount of experience and how they handle certain types of coverage.

Experience

One factor to consider when you compare different pet insurance providers is experience, which can be measured by how long they have been in business. The agency that provides ASPCA® Pet Insurance began offering pet insurance plans in 1997. Embrace entered the pet insurance market in 2006.

Prescription Food and Supplements

Your veterinarian may recommend prescription food, which is specifically formulated for particular health conditions, such as digestive, joint, or kidney issues. They may also suggest supplements to promote their health. For instance, glucosamine may benefit pets with arthritis and Omega-3 fatty acids can help pets with cognitive disorders.

ASPCA® Pet Health Insurance plans include coverage for prescription food and supplements to treat a covered condition (not for general maintenance or weight management). Embrace offers this coverage as an optional add-on, so you’ll need to add it to your plan at an extra cost.

Microchipping

Microchipping is one of the best ways to help ensure your pet is returned home. It can’t fall off like a collar and tag. Plus, it allows someone with a microchip reader to access your contact information as long as you keep it up-to-date with your microchip registry service. ASPCA® Pet Health Insurance plans include coverage for implanting a microchip. With Embrace, you will need to purchase it as an optional add-on.

Vaccines

With Embrace pet insurance, you must follow your veterinarian’s vaccine recommendations to be eligible for coverage. ASPCA® Pet Health Insurance plans do not have any vaccine requirements for eligibility. We believe all of your pet’s medical decisions should be left to you and your veterinarian.

Upper Age Limits

Pet insurance can be useful for older pets who may be more prone to accidents or illnesses as they age. ASPCA® Pet Health Insurance plans do not have any upper age limits for new enrollments. Embrace limits their new enrollments to dogs and cats under the age of 14 years old.

Multiple Pet Discount

ASPCA® Pet Health Insurance plans offer a 10% discount on multiple pets. Embrace has a 10% discount in some states, but a 5% discount in others. If you’re looking to insure multiple pets or you think you might add a new pet to your family in the future, you will need to check the Embrace multiple pet discount for your state.
