A benefit schedule sets a fixed payout amount based on a pet's diagnosis. It does not take into account whether veterinary care is more expensive in your region of the country. It also doesn't change based on your pet's individual treatment circumstances.

ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plans reimburse based on usual and customary covered charges, which are charges considered typical for your geographic region. That also allows us to reimburse you based on the actual services your pet needs.

Here’s an example: Two different dogs swallow a foreign object and need surgery to get it out. Based on the pets' circumstances, the treatments costs can vary, but a benefit schedule only allows one amount based on the diagnosis.
