Pets Best pet insurance has some conditions concerning how you care for your pet. For instance, your pet won’t be eligible for coverage if you don’t follow their vaccine requirements or stick to your veterinarian’s recommendations for preventive medications. ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plans do not have these kinds of requirements.

Pets Best Pet Insurance Plan Comparison

There are some significant differences between ASPCA® Pet Health Insurance plans and Pets Best. Keep these in mind as you shop around for the best fit for you and your pet.

Vaccine and Other Requirements

Pets Best insurance plans require you to comply with their vaccine requirements or follow your veterinarian’s recommendations for preventive medications. In addition, according to their policy form, they require that you “act sensibly in caring for and protecting your pet.” We believe your pet’s care is best left to you and your veterinarian. Our policy does not have any eligibility requirements regarding how you take care of your pet.

Veterinary Exam Fees

Almost every veterinary bill includes an exam fee, which is the charge for examining your pet to assess their overall health and start the process of diagnosing potential problems. ASPCA® Pet Health insurance coverage reimburses you for these exam fees for covered conditions. Pets Best offers this coverage as an optional add-on for certain plans, which means you’ll need to pay more if you’d like exam fees covered.

Prescription Medications

Pets Best offers coverage for prescription medications as an optional add-on. So, like with veterinary exam fees, you’ll need to pay extra if you’d like this coverage. Additionally, Pets Best limits you to a list of covered medications. If your pet needs a medication that is not on this list, it won’t be covered. ASPCA® Pet Health Insurance plans cover prescription medications as part of their accident and illness coverage. There’s also no list of covered medications.

Alternative Therapies

Your veterinarian may suggest alternative therapies, such as hydrotherapy, acupuncture, or massage, to help your pet recover from an injury or illness. ASPCA® Pet Health Insurance plans will help you manage the costs of these therapies for covered conditions. With Pets Best, you’ll need to purchase this coverage as an optional add-on.

Prescription Food & Supplements

Prescription foods and supplements are becoming more widely used these days to help pets with a variety of health conditions. ASPCA® Pet Health Insurance plans have coverage for both as long as they are used to treat a covered condition (not for general maintenance or weight management). Pets Best does not offer this coverage at all.

Microchipping

We understand the important role a microchip can play in returning your pet home as quickly as possible. That’s why we include the implantation of a microchip in our coverage. Pets Best offers coverage for microchipping, but only as an optional add-on.

Multiple Pet Discount

ASPCA® Pet Health Insurance offers a 10% multiple pet discount for each pet after your most expensive pet. Pets Best multiple pet discount is 5%. That might not seem important if you only have one pet right now, but you may want to welcome another pet into your family in the future.
