CarePlus by Chewy Plan Comparison

CarePlus by Chewy and the ASPCA® Pet Health Insurance plans have several key differences, particularly when it comes to exam requirements and preventative coverage options.

Exam Coverage

ASPCA® Pet Health Insurance plans include exam fees for covered conditions and do not have any additional requirements regarding exams prior to enrolling your pet. Chewy’s Value plan, powered by Lemonade, offers coverage for sick visit exam fees. Chewy also offers a Complete plan, powered by Trupanion, that offers coverage for sick visit exam fees. Chewy’s Essential Plus plan and Accident Only plan, both powered by Trupanion, do not cover exam fees.

Chewy pet insurance plans also have additional exam requirements for enrollment. For Chewy plans powered by Trupanion it’s required that your pet has had a veterinary exam within the 12 months prior to your enrollment date, unless they are enrolled before their first birthday. For Chewy plans powered by Lemonade you must provide medical records from within the 12 months prior, or up to 14 days after your pet’s policy start date.

Microchip Implantation

The ASPCA® Pet Health Insurance program coverage will reimburse you for the costs of implanting a microchip in your pet. This procedure is not painful for your pet, and it can help make sure your pet is returned home quickly and safely. Chewy does not offer coverage for a microchip implantation.

Pre-Existing Conditions

CarePlus by Chewy does not provide any coverage for pre-existing conditions. This includes coverage for pre-existing dental accidents or illnesses. ASPCA® Pet Health Insurance plans also do not cover pre-existing conditions. However, they are no longer considered pre-existing and are eligible for coverage if the condition is curable and cured and free of symptoms and treatment for 180 days.

Telehealth

The ASPCA® Pet Health Insurance program provides access to telehealth benefits through The Vet Connection to all customers, in all 50 states. You can easily connect with a vet online, in the comfort of your own home. CarePlus by Chewy does not provide telehealth benefits in all 50 states.

End of Life Expenses

The ASPCA® Pet Health Insurance program sees care throughout your pet’s lifetime, and even beyond their final moments. Coverage for end-of-life expenses such as euthanasia, cremation, and burial are included in our coverage. CarePlus by Chewy does not provide any coverage for end-of-life expenses.

*Only up to 90% for Essential Accident & Illness Plans.

**We offer a 30-day money-back guarantee if no claims are filed; 15-days in LA and ME. Not available in NY.
