Lemonade Pet Insurance Plan Comparison

Get the details on some of the differences between Complete Coverage SM and Lemonade plan options.

Veterinary Exam Requirements

You’ll need to provide Lemonade with a medical record within 12 months of your policy’s start date or 14 days after. Complete Coverage SMdoes not have any exam requirements for enrollment.

Coverage for Accident and Illness Exam Fees

Any time you take your pet to the veterinarian for an accident or an illness, you’ll more than likely be charged a veterinary exam fee. This fee is not covered by Lemonade unless you also purchase their Extended Accident and Illness package. Complete Coverage SMcovers this fee.

Behavioral Issues

If you’ve ever had a pet who had a behavioral issue, with symptoms like destructive chewing or excessive vocalization, you know how disruptive it can be to your family. Depending on the condition, it can also be harmful and upsetting for your pet. That’s why Complete Coverage SM covers the eligible diagnosis and treatments of these conditions. Lemonade offers plan options with this coverage, but you’ll have to add it to your base plan and pay an extra add-on cost for it.

Prescription Food and Supplements

More veterinarians are prescribing prescription food and supplements to help pets with accidents and illnesses. If you enroll in Complete Coverage SM, you can get reimbursed the eligible expenses for these products when they are prescribed to treat a covered condition (not for general maintenance or weight management). Lemonade plans do not cover prescription food or supplements.

Multiple Pet Discount

If you’d like to cover more than one furry family member, you’ll be happy to know that you can enjoy a multiple pet discount with our plans. You get a 10% multiple pet discount for each additional pet after your most expensive pet. Even if you only have one pet now, you may want to add another furball to your family at some point. Lemonade plans have a 5% multiple pet discount.

Alternative Therapies

If your pet gets sick or injured, your veterinarian might suggest an alternative therapy to help with their recovery. These include physical therapy, hydrotherapy, massage therapy, and acupuncture. With Complete Coverage SM, you can get reimbursed the eligible expenses for those treatments if they are prescribed to treat a covered condition. Lemonade does not offer coverage for alternative therapies unless you purchase their Extended Accident and Illness package.

Experience

It’s important to factor in experience when shopping around for coverage. There’s no guarantee, but experience can indicate that a company has claims expertise and longevity. The agency that provides ASPCA Pet Health Insurance plans was founded in 1997. Lemonade launched in 2015 but did not start offering pet insurance until 2020.

* Prescription food & supplements are covered if they are prescribed to treat an eligible accident or illness. Prescription food & supplements are not covered if they are used for weight management or general health maintenance.
